Skill: Squat Snatches
WOD: 80 Burpees for Time
Athlete Profile: Judy Ferry
Bulldog's Introduction:
She's definitely one of my absolute favorite humans on the planet and the fact remains that she is competing for the right to claim that she's the fittest woman on the planet in the Master's division this weekend in Seattle (CrossFit Regional Qualifier). If you would have told me this 3 years ago she'd be where she is today...I don't know if I would have bought it. Dreams come true Judy, you're living proof! God bless you, the Staton's love you!
Montana's 2 cents:
I met Judy about two years ago when the valley gym was little more than a basketball court and some borrowed dumbbells. Her smile was so inviting and her personality was magnetic. This is the Judy I know today and I'm proud to call her my friend. She is a fighter deep down just like me and I love her for that. Her passion for people and her kind and optimistic character inspire me every day. I love telling your story and using it to help others understand what you already know; pursing your goals is always worth it! Love ya girl. Now go kick some CF ass!
Name: Judy Ferry
Crossfit nickname: Judy-Licious
Age: 50
Occupation: Construction/Accounting
How long have you been Crossfitting? 2 yrs. +
Why do you Crossfit? I like to say “I Crossfit because I CAN!” (a lifetime of obesity had trained me to think only in terms of all of the “I can’ts” in my life) . . . and because there is nothing else like it. It has been life-changing!
What is your favorite Crossfit workout and why? Favorite WODs are fast moving and preferably not too many rounds to keep track of; Tabatas, Fight Gone Bad, even Fran & Helen. Favorite lift is Deadlift.
Least favorite? AMRAPS; they seem to go on forever and I have a terrible time keeping track of my rounds . . .
Do you have an athletic background? What sports did you play? 0- Sports/Athletic background prior to Crossfit! (referring back to the “lifetime of obesity” comment above )
What are your interests/hobbies outside the gym? What do you like to do for fun? I love to spend my free time with my daughters, new granddaughter, and friends. Also camping, bike riding, cooking, sewing, scrapbooking and cardmaking, reading, movies . . . there are not enough hours in the day!
Tell us something interesting about you that not too many people know about, that might help people at Crossfit get to know you a little better: I think I am pretty much an “open book” !! (Sometimes to the extent that I wonder if people are thinking WTMI, Judy!). Maybe the fact that I was sort of a hippie when I was younger would surprise people . . .
Do you have a favorite motivational quote? (I saw this on the back of an affiliate shirt @ the 2009 Crossfit Regionals in Seattle and thought it perfectly describes my life over the last few years . . .) “Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible”.
What do you like to listen to when you are suffering though a WOD? Alternative/rock; I’ve even gotten pretty fond of some of Dan’s “angry music”! Anything as long as it’s loud and I can’t hear myself breathing hard!
What is the one “non-zone” indulgence that you just won’t say NO to? Favorite non-zone indulgence I can’t say no to: A post-WOD beer!
